What does DNS mean?

FAQ

DNS stands for Domain Name System, which is a huge online directory that’s responsible for taking a website’s domain name (or URL) and translating it into an IP (Internet Protocol address). This is necessary, as while we can understand, and better remember domain names, like Youtube.com, for instance, computers need the IP address to connect us to the correct website or page, like 81.27.222.144.

When you register a new domain name, your registration or website hosting company will send the details to the Central Registry, where all the information around the world are held. This also happens when you change your DNS settings for whatever reason, like changing hosting company, for example.
